Choosing The Right MTB Tyre Inserts For You

 

Gone are the days when the only option for mountain bike inserts was an air-filled inner tube. Nowadays, we’ve got a seemingly endless range of MTB tyre inserts to choose from, and their design and performance claims are all very different. The Outdoor Primal team decided to look at a couple of the most popular choices available and evaluate whether or not they’re worth the hype.
 

 

Full Mousse Inserts

A mousse tyre insert, also known as tubeless tyre inserts, are a solid foam inner tube designed to eliminate flat tyres altogether. While mousse inserts were initially designed for off-road motorcycles, they’ve made their way into the MTB community, but didn’t catch on with quite as much enthusiasm. This was largely due to the heavier weight of mousse inserts and the pressure. Unfortunately, mousse only offers one pressure level with no room for adjustment, so if you need higher or lower PSI, you’re out of luck.
 

 

Split Inserts

The majority of mountain bike tyre inserts are a split between full mousse and full tubeless. The foam insert sits against the rim and fills about 2/3’s of the tyre, and the rest is filled with air. This way, the overall weight of the tyre is reduced compaired to a full mousse tube, and riders have the freedom to adjust their pressure based on their preference and the track they plan to tackle. Our E-DuraMousse are made for tubeless and tubeless ready tyres. These mtb tyre inserts provide a damped feel, sidewall support, and rim protection, making them ideal for cross country and downhill riders alike.
